Alopecia Areata Clinical Trials: What is Alopecia Areata?

Alopecia areata is a common autoimmune disorder that affects the hair follicles, leading to hair loss. It typically presents as patchy hair loss on the scalp, but it can also affect other areas of the body where hair is present, such as the eyebrows, eyelashes, beard, and body hair.

Alopecia areata can occur at any age, but it often starts in childhood or early adulthood. The condition can be unpredictable, with hair loss occurring suddenly and the regrowth of hair happening spontaneously. Some individuals may experience recurrent episodes of hair loss and regrowth, while others may have more extensive or persistent hair loss.
